Sei and Rama, the Parrots

Sei and Rama were 2 of the first birds to arrive on Earth through Soy's doorway on the first day it opened. They began talking immediately, and repeated everything they heard - speech, animal sounds, the sound of the waves on the beach... The only times they were quiet were when Soy told her Tail (each night at sunset), and when they were asleep. They were record-keepers of a sort. They never forgot anything and were helpless to say what they had heard when asked. There are a few things it could mean if a parrot (or parrots) comes to you in a dream or meditation. There are times when a parrot is a good omen. The Hindu god of love Kama had a parrot as his symbol. The parrot clan of the Hopi tribe see the parrot as a symbol of the south and abundance. If the parrot is near you (on your shoulder maybe, or behind you, sitting close-by), you may need to watch the amounts of gossip you listen to and then repeat to others. If, in the dream or vision, you see people around you with parrots near them in some way, they may not be trustworthy with any secrets you may have. My personal experience with parrots in dreams have shown me that people I know who have parrots near them in the dreamworld are parrots themselves of a sort. They hear little bits of this and that from other people and put together a little puzzle in their head - some facts mixed up with lies and deceit. This is what happens to gossip - something is said by someone to another person, and that person turns to another and tells them nearly the same thing. It's usually not the exact version told by the previous parrot-person - rumors tend to mutate and change as they move through a community. People-parrots are helpless to spread gossip and rumors. They actually enjoy it because it can help them focus on someone else's life rather than the problems surging upward in their own. People with parrot spirits around them are usually unaware of it, and are almost always defensive and shocked if and when you try to tell them about it. I feel it's important to tell these people about their 'parrot passengers' - to clue them in to what darkness they're feeding as they spread gossip and lies. I've had a series of dreams over the last few years that finally made sense a couple years after I had them. All these dreams involved people in a community I was connected to very deeply. The main person was a woman I'll call Jill. In the first dream, I was talking to Jill and saw she had a parrot on her shoulder. I looked around and saw there was one behind me, sitting on a bookshelf. I didn't think much of it and continued talking with Jill. The second dream started out much like the first - Jill and I were sitting in a room talking. She had a parrot on her shoulder. I looked around and rather than a parrot being behind me on a bookshelf, there was an eagle perched on my shoulder. I turned back and watched Jill talking. She was the only one who talked actually, I just sat and stared at her. I watched Jill say goodbye and then leave. I turned into the eagle and flew above her - following her. I saw her walk up to a girl with a parrot on her shoulder. Instead of saying anything, Jill's parrot opened its beak and replayed the whole conversation we'd just had. Then, the parrot on the shoulder of the girl Jill was meeting with started to do the same thing. Jill and the girl just sat there at first, saying nothing. Then, they started talking too. It was very cacophonous and disturbing. Then, the parrots shut up and just listened to Jill and the girl. When they were done talking, Jill and the girl (with their parrots in tow) went their separate ways. I followed the girl this time and saw her walk up to a man with a parrot on his shoulder. The same scene that took place between the girl and Jill was replayed. The parrots talked and talked, the girl and man started talking. There was something different about the girl's energy when she talked to the man though. She started talking about Jill and other people, and a darkness began to grow around the girl. She was saying really mean and deceitful things about a bunch of people and was even letting supposed secrets slip. Her parrot did the same thing. It started repeating things told in secrecy. Finally, they were done and the girl and her parrot walked away from the man. I was still flying above her as an eagle watching it all when I saw the shadow of a giant bird over the girl. I thought it was me at first, but when I turned I saw a huge raven soaring past me - headed straight for the girl. The raven grabbed the girl and she screamed in surprise. It flew to the mouth of a gaping black hole with the girl in its talons and flung her into it. Then, the raven flew away and disappeared. I found the guy she had been talking to previously with a parrot still on his shoulder. The parrot was talking and talking and talking... The man got more and more irritated by the parrot's rambling and then grabbed it and threw it as far away as possible. The parrot flew back and tried over and over again to land on his shoulder, but he fought it off each time. Eventually, a young eagle landed on the man's shoulder and waited. When the parrot got close, the eagle shot from the man's shoulder and killed the parrot. After watching this as an eagle above it all, I found Jill again. She still had a parrot on her shoulder and was in the middle of a conversation with someone else who had a parrot on theirs'. After they finished talking and separated, I followed Jill again. I saw the shadow of a giant bird over her and turned to see a giant raven closing in on her fast from above... This dream really put some things in my life into a whole new perspective. I became much more aware of what I listen to or talk about with people I know that are 'parrots'. Eventually, I ended my friendship with Jill and her 'gang' because of these dreams (and others I've had since then) and what they taught me. People who participate in malicious gossiping and create and/or spread lies aren't worthy of trust or respect. I refuse to call anyone who does these things a friend. It takes courage, but if you know of someone who has a parrot personality, try calling them on it. If you have this type of personality, it's time to stop being that way! There is no honor in gossip. In Buddhism, one part of the 'eightfold path' is for a person to have Right Speech. They believe it is wrong to tell lies or to waste your energy on gossip and helping spread gossip. I feel the same. The main reason I feel I understand parrot energy so well, is because I had one on my shoulder for a while... I try to be more like an eagle now. Conway, D.J. Animal Magick.
