Coyote In Magic Tails, Coyote is a strange and powerful being who first appeared to Soy in a dream. In the dream, Coyote noted Soy's loneliness and gave her some magical advice. Soy drew a magic doorway and when she woke, saw the doorway existed on Earth too. In the dream, Coyote told Soy to sit before the doorway and make a wish. Her wish opened the magical door and out poured animals of all sizes shapes and colors - including Coyote. Coyote first appeared to Soy standing on hind legs and wearing a purple cloak (in Tail Four). On Earth though, Coyote couldn't change into the cloaked sage like in the Dreamworld. Much more is revealed about Coyote in later Tails... In Native Amercian mythology, Coyote was a trickster. Sometimes he was helpful, at other times he was mean and evil. Coyote was a very selfish being, almost everything he did was for himself or for his own entertainment. Whenever a deal was made, there was always something in it for him... Yet, his pranks and tricks almost always backfired on him. This is one of the lessons we humans learn from the stories of Coyote - selfishness gets us nowhere, and pranks we play on people almost always come back to haunt or hurt us. It could be said that Coyote is one of the best bad examples we have. Sometimes we can learn a lot from those who practice Coyote medicine - we learn what not to do in life! If Coyote comes to you in a dream, meditation, or every day life, it could mean that someone may come into your life offering help in some way - make sure you know what this person's intent is! Be sure they are helping you out of kindness and not for some other selfish reason. It can also be a message that you may have the opportunity to help a person or group of people and to do so selflessly with no strings attached. If you are thinking about playing some sort of prank on another person (or if that's something you do often), think twice! Your prank may backfire on you! If you've been a Coyote-type person in the past, maybe your experiences and stories could help someone now who is heading down that path... Conway, D.J. Animal Magick.
